Do you constantly feel like you’re behind?
In my world, I’m juggling pediatrician appointments, employees, business goals, paying bills, cooking dinners, keeping a relatively clean house, dog grooming appointments, grocery shopping, blah, blah, blah…
I used to have a crazy long-running to-do list that felt like no matter what I did I was adding more than I was crossing off.
I was overwhelmed, stressed out and felt like I was constantly failing.
Sound familiar?
It doesn’t have to be that way! I’ve figured out how to get ahead and you can too!
How do you actually get ahead?
Key understanding: If you let yourself, you will always feel behind.
As a creative and an achiever you have a dream for yourself with big goals and a beautiful vision. There’s always somewhere you’re headed. And that’s great!
What’s not so great is…
If you let yourself, it’s easy to focus on the distance between where you are now and where you want to be.
STEP 1: Shift your mindset
What happens when you’re focused on not being where you want to be? What thoughts start to run through your head?
It’ll never happen.
I’m so far away.
I don’t have enough time.
Maybe I’m not good enough?
And the lack, scarcity, failure spiral continues…
This downward spiral of negative thoughts is exactly what will keep you “behind” FOREVER.
Truth: You are EXACTLY where you should be.
You need to reprogram the negative thoughts telling you you’re behind and replace them with thoughts that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be at this moment in time.
Repeat after me: “I am exactly where I should be.”
There are many ways to do this, but here are a few ideas to start making the shift: journaling, EFT, practicing awareness, repeating mantras, etc.
You may need to try a few techniques before you discover your special sauce, but don’t stop until you’ve found something (or a combo) that works for you.
STEP 2: Get more done in less time
The next step is more tangible. It’s vital that you get clear on the most important things you need to do to to get where you want to go. This is about 1) getting clear on how you want your life to look; 2) practicing the things that bring you joy; and 3) executing a proven strategy to get the results you desire.
Once you’re clear on those things, it’s vital that you focus your time and energy on those 3 components. Otherwise, your day will get filled up with busy work that doesn’t fill your cup or your bank account.
If you are not already, I highly recommend calendar blocking. When I started calendar blocking it changed everything for me. I got more done in less time, felt super organized and started seeing results way faster. This was a great way for me to get ahead.
